MirthKit now Open Source!

MirthKit is now fully open source, under the LGPL. You can find the source on Launchpad. If you’d like to check out the source immediately, branch from the bazaar repository with the following command:

bzr branch lp:mirthkit

Microgame Competition I has ended

The deadline is up for the first MirthKit microgame competition, and, drum roll please……. there is one contestant. X)

Despite the fact that our contestant, Mike Hibbert, put together quite a showing with his entry, an excellent micro-sized minigolf game, he has won by default anyway! Congrats Mike!

Mike’s game is already up on the arcade for your playing pleasure. Go check it out and report any problems/feedback here.

Minor Windows Revision: 1.2-2

The Windows installer for MirthKit has had a minor update. This update includes:

  • A fix for an error caused by very long windows user names
  • An installer which installs MirthKit onto Vista with higher privileges (hopefully no more right-click run-as-admin)

MirthKit Releases First Ever Commercial Game Which Includes Source Code

Curved Infinity Games, through the MirthKit game platform, is proud to present the first ever commercial game to be released with full source code included. Finity Flight: Fight Back, the expansion to Curved Infinity Games’ August release, Finity Flight, is the first direct hybridization of commercialism and open source philosophy. When a customer buys Fight Back for $11.99, they automatically download all of the game’s source and assets.

Finity Flight: Fight Back released!

We are proud to present not only the first commercial game available on MirthKit, but the first commercial game ever to be released with full source code.

Available on Ubuntu, Windows, and soon OSX, Fight Back is the expansion to our August release, Finity Flight, and represents a path yet-untraveled for gaming. It is the first direct hybridization of commerce and the open source philosophy. However, Finity Flight: Fight Back is not open source software, and this distinction is important.

Finity Flight 1.2 Released

Three months after the release of Finity Flight, we are proud to announce the first patch to the game. The new patch includes a new system of help screens, new secret unlockable content, a bonus level after completing the game, and many other small changes.

This patch will be automatically downloaded when you play Finity Flight on the arcade. As a side effect, it will erase all previous high scores.

Microgame Competition I – “Play House”

MirthKit is a great way to make small games. To help motivate developers to try MirthKit, we would like to start a series of friendly contests for making tiny bite-sized games. All submissions will be featured on MirthKit’s arcade, and the winner gets to chose an open source project which will receive a $500 donation.

MirthKit Promises Openmoko, GP2X Wiz Support

Curved Infinity Games has announced continued expansion of MirthKit’s list of supported platforms, starting with support for open mobile platforms. The Openmoko mobile phone operating system and GP2X Wiz mobile game console are ideal candidates for MirthKit’s 2D-only game marketplace. The addition of MirthKit’s capabilities and cross platform reach will give these platforms new games while giving MirthKit’s users new mobility.
