MirthKit is the downloadable arcade where the people who make your games are just like you. There aren’t any big companies, and many of the games made on MirthKit are created by a single creative person.

Many games on MirthKit are free and many are for sale. Regardless of whether the game is commercial or not, it’s yours, so you have full access to its inner-workings (at least if you are interested in that sort of thing).

Since anyone can have access to all parts of a game, a big part of MirthKit is adding on to existing games. So, if you enjoyed a particular MirthKit game, investigate what else is available for it, or even plan your own expansion!

MirthKit and games made with MirthKit work on Windows, Intel-based Macs, and Ubuntu. They require at least a 2.0 GHz Pentium 4, integrated 3D graphics, and a broadband internet connection.

If you are interested in making games for MirthKit, there’s a lot of information in the developer wiki (linked on the sidebar). What you have to know is that there is never a cost for MirthKit even if you sell your game, that you always have ownership of your game, and that to put your game up for sale, you just need to meet some basic requirements.
